People are becoming more comfortable with sharing literature on the web, especially thanks to the PDF, or Portable Document Format. Virtually every good desktop publishing program in the current market offers the ability to export documents as a PDF and view them for free with Adobe's Acrobat Reader. We can even view them right in our favorite web browser. But as of now, there has been only one default view that has been standardized by Adobe:

It's not bad. Kind of minimal in design, but very intuitive and flexible. It just needs a make-over. What Issuu will do is take your PDF and transform it into a modern, online Flash presentation. It's very much like a virtual book, but with lots of useful features to enhance the viewing experience. And it's very nice to look at. The presentation is a flash-built stand-alone, which means you can share them easily on your personal website, blog, or favorite social networks. Take a look at some of these examples:

Yes, that is an issue of Popular Science. :) Issuu does magazines, too. Ever wanted to start your own? Issuu makes it easy to publish and share them. You (and your readers) can even customize the way a publication is displayed on a web page by choosing background colors and other embedding options. Issuu users can bookmark and subscribe to your publications, too, while keeping them organized in The Library.

As of November of 2007, there are close to 26000 artists and 91000 drawings. And membership is free. Even if you can't draw a stick figure, there's plenty of user-submitted tutorials to help you find your technique. But what's even more useful about the drawing software is that it animates your production from start to finish. This really allows the artist to study and monitor his or her process. Of course, this all depends on how the user addresses the limitations of the software.

And there are limitations. Because of band-width restrictions, users are given a small selection of drawings tools, like, the traditional paint brush, air brush, and fill tool. Other features, like, the guide layer, custom color palette, and the life-saving "undo" and "redo" buttons make the process easier. But the biggest gripe members deal with is the limitation of ink, which is constantly monitored during your drawing. This part may seem unfair, but it really forces artists to work much more efficiently. And because ink takes up so much space and memory, this allows RMD to run much more efficiently, too.

But don't be discouraged by the limitations because a lot can be accomplished with this simple tool. And with RMD's sharing options, you can showcase your illustrations beyond the community.
