RateMyDrawings.com
Rate My Drawings is an online community for visual artists to illustrate and share their artwork. Centered around a Flash-built drawing utility, members can create, save, and publish their work to the website. Once published, viewers can comment on and rate illustrations from 1–10 (RMD: “masterpiece or a disaster piece”). RMD members choose from a selection of categories to submit their work to. One of which is the themed, monthly drawing competition where members can enter their best work. One lucky artist gets his or her entry used for the home page contest promotion. The competition winner(s) receive a prize decided by the RMD panel.
As of November of 2007, there are close to 26000 artists and 91000 drawings. And membership is free. Even if you can't draw a stick figure, there's plenty of user-submitted tutorials to help you find your technique. But what's even more useful about the drawing software is that it animates your production from start to finish. This really allows the artist to study and monitor his or her process. Of course, this all depends on how the user addresses the limitations of the software.

And there are limitations. Because of band-width restrictions, users are given a small selection of drawings tools, like, the traditional paint brush, air brush, and fill tool. Other features, like, the guide layer, custom color palette, and the life-saving "undo" and "redo" buttons make the process easier. But the biggest gripe members deal with is the limitation of ink, which is constantly monitored during your drawing. This part may seem unfair, but it really forces artists to work much more efficiently. And because ink takes up so much space and memory, this allows RMD to run much more efficiently, too.
But don't be discouraged by the limitations because a lot can be accomplished with this simple tool. And with RMD's sharing options, you can showcase your illustrations beyond the community. It's easy to link your work on your blog or personal website, plus a multitude of other popular social networks. You can read about other updates, announcements, and user feedback in the forum.
Oh, and did I mention I'm a member, too? :) Check out my profile.
