MAY 2008 — Well, this month went by fast! I completed two new portraits and added them to my RMD portfolio. One was a request for Walt Disney and the other is Eva Mendes. I'm pleased with how they turned out. If you like them, please take a moment to rate them. ;)

Drawing Day: A Worldwide Drawing Event

APR 2008 — Get ready to drop everything and draw! June 7, 2008 is Drawing Day, a global holiday event to celebrate the love of drawing. Artists of all skill levels can participate by illustrating online at popular drawing websites and help contribute to an ambitious goal of one million drawings. Drawing Day will be an annual event, occurring the first Saturday of June.

I'm also pleased to announce that two of my illustrations have been included in RateMyDrawing.com's Drawing Poster! Over 3000 of the site's top drawings have been used in creating this impressive mosaic. The goal is to help raise funds for improving the site's drawing utilities and community. It was my Barack Obama and Rose McGowan illustrations that made the cut. You can watch how I created them, along with my other online drawings in my new RMD portfolio.

Going with the Coroflot

MAR 2008 — Lots of new and interesting things going on this month. First, I've made some cosmetic changes to the website. All news entries are collapsed to a single line. Any news entry less than a month old is highlighted in yellow; older entries are in gray. This should clear a little bit of the clutter and save time on page loading. And I'm also planning some more updates for next month:

• RSS feeds for The Latest, Featured Links, and Portfolio channels
• Updates to the About section, including more affiliations and networks
• A review of my new Wacom Bamboo drawing tablet
• And, of course, more work!

Also, I set up an account at Coroflot, a career and community site for creative professionals. I've already uploaded some work from the Kim Deal tribute, as well as a selection of logotypes I've created over the years (see my mini-portfolio to the left). Hopefully, this opportunity to network with other designers will open some new doors. Please feel free to visit my portfolio page here.

In the excitement of the recent democratic primaries, I decided to try out another portrait at RateMyDrawings. Given the mass amounts of attention from the media, I'm sure Mr. Obama wouldn't mind my tribute one bit:

Gigantic News

FEB 2008 — It's official! The once iTunes-only release of Gigantic: A Tribute to Kim Deal will now be available on CD. I'm so excited to have created all of the CD materials and promotions for the tribute. The process was amazing and I had a blast working with Joe Spadaro, founder of American Laundromat Records. Thanks again, Joe, for the opportunity!

You can find the tribute at the American Laundromat Records website. Pre-order it now to get it by mid-March. You can also connect with ALR on MySpace to find more great releases.

Things will be great in 2008!

JAN 2008 — And what an amazing year so far! After everyone's generous voting and support for my entry in RateMyDrawing.com's December competition, I remained in the Top 50 and still eligible for a shot at winning a Wacom Bamboo drawing tablet (see image to the left). Hundreds of entries were submitted and the competition officially closed on JAN 2. The day after, I got an email from RMD congratulating me on being randomly selected as this month's winner! How awesome is that!? So, I want to say “thank you” to RMD, the RMD community, my friends and my family for your voting and encouraging comments. Oh, and as soon as I get to playing around with the tablet, I will be sure to write a review.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to showcase some of the Top 50 entries that didn't get selected. I thought these were all exceptional entries and each artist did an amazing job on them:

So, how about those New Year resolutions? Well, I think there's too many to mention this year. There's plenty of networks and organizations I'm planning on joining, like, Flickr, Facebook, and LinkedIn. And you can expect more artwork from me on RMD. I'm also planning on putting my portfolio on Issuu.com, so I'm definitely looking forward to that.

DEC 2007 — This month, RateMyDrawings.com is having another one of their monthly drawing competitions in the spirit of the holiday season. I decided to finally enter, after shying away from previous competitions. So, for my entry I illustrated a scene from my favorite Christmas movie of all time, A Christmas Story:

NOV 2007 — Sometime in September I was sent a link to RateMyDrawings.com, an online drawing community created around a flash-based drawing tool. I decided to sign up and give it at try. It's great for artists to share their work and promote themselves. You can read more about the website in the Featured section of my links page.

TNGAB: New Home, New Stationery

OCT 2007 — The show has been taking off and gaining many dedicated fans since it's debut this month. And now, you can find all the latest news and band content at the show's new website, hosted exclusively at MSN. There are some really great bands in the lot — Très Bien is probably my favorite. But as of now, I would put my money on Sixwire or The Clark Brothers.

Also this month, I designed some new business cards for the show's production crew. Even the judges got some custom note pads to write down their band performance evaluations. But even these pads aren't big enough for Dicko.

TGIF! The Next Great American Band

AUG 2007 — I'm ecstatic to announce I have finished the new website for FOX's newest reality show, The Next Great American Band. Brought to you by the producers of American Idol, this website is exclusive to MySpace. In the future, a full site will be realized where fans can get updates and additional information, photos, and videos of the band contestants. Look forward to that soon!
